Message from the Board
It’s hard to believe we’re nearly halfway through our season already! We hope your skater(s) have been enjoying the season so far. There were a lot of skating achievements this past month. Great job to everyone!
This month’s newsletter highlights several holiday-related events in December to add to your calendar. We also need a couple of RSVPs for upcoming events (see links below).
Remember, if you have any questions for the Board, please email info@norwichskatingclub.ca. Email is monitored daily. As we head into winter weather, please keep an eye out on our NDSC group Facebook page. If for any reason skating is cancelled due to weather, it will be posted to the group Facebook page first.
Coaching update
The NDSC Board is thrilled to announce the appointment of Carissa Maguire as NDSC Head Coach. Carissa is an incredibly collaborative and optimistic team player who is a huge asset to our Coaching staff. With more than 16 years of coaching experience, Carissa is a true leader – and we’re thankful for all she has done to advance our Club forward. Please share your congratulations with Carissa on her well-deserved appointment as Head Coach.
Registration
Winter registration for CanSkate is now open for those who have only registered for the Fall season. Visit our website to register.
Payments
Please remember to follow instructions for payments for fundraising or registration. It can be very difficult to track down payments and decipher which payment is being directed where (i.e. when sending an e-transfer etc.). If you are sending an e-transfer for fundraising dollars, please add in the notes of your e-transfer, what the funds are for and for which skater. This is especially important if you’re transferring funds for multiple things. Please break it down in the notes section of your online banking page.
Fundraising
🧀 Cheese please! The Gunn’s Hill Cheese fundraiser forms and payment are due November 26. If you are having to email your form (not preferred), please ensure your scan is clear and easy to read. Cheese can be picked up at the arena on December 12 starting at 4:30. We cannot store cheese orders. Please arrange for pick up on the 12th.
Chocolate covered almonds are also available to pre-purchase on Uplifter. Buy the box and start selling today!
November theme day
🌺This month’s theme is Hawaiian/luau! Let’s see those flowers and bright colours on the ice! Theme day is scheduled for Wednesday, November 26 for STARSkate and Saturday, November 29 for CanSkate.
Holiday events
The Club will be participating in the Otterville Santa Clause Parade on November 29! We would love for as many skaters as possible to join our “Tree Farm” float. Special thanks to Renee, Kyla and Halle H’s parents for organizing! The start time is 5:00p.m.
We would love to get a headcount for the Parade. Simply let us know if your skater will be attending by adding their names to this form.
Holiday Showcase
Each year, our skaters showcase their talent at a special family event. PRECAN and CanSkate skaters will work on short routines to show off at the event to be held on Saturday, December 13 starting at 10:00 a.m. Skaters can wear their most festive wear for the Showcase.
The STARskate showcase will be held on Monday, December 15 starting at 5:00p.m. A schedule will be created to know approximately when your skater will take the ice. Skaters can wear their skating dress if they have one or holiday-themed gear. Both events are a great time to invite family and friends to watch!
Santa Skate and baked goodies
Santa is coming to NDSC! Santa will take to the ice on Saturday December 13 after the Showcase. All NDSC skaters are invited to skate with Santa on December 13 (10:30-11:20 a.m.).
If you’re looking for a way to get more volunteer hours, please raise your hand to bring baked goods for the Santa Skate. Your time will be counted towards your volunteer hours. If you’re interested in baking, please submit your name here.
STARSkate FunComp
FunComp is back! Because of a tight season this year, we’re holding FunComp on Monday, December 22 for Session 1,2,3 skaters. For those new to STARSkate, FunComp is an evening where skaters are put into teams and show their team spirit by dressing up in the colour they’ve been assigned. Coaches will then create fun competitions on the ice for the teams to compete in – all for bragging rights! Pizza will be provided for skaters. FunComp will begin at 4:30 and go until approximately 6:30p.m. We do need all skaters to RSVP for FunComp. Please RSVP here.
